Abstract

This study aims to analyze the frame strength of a lapping machine using the Finite Element Method (FEM) based on SolidWorks software. The lapping machine requires a strong and stable frame structure to effectively withstand operational loads without experiencing significant deformation. The machine frame is designed using UNP profile steel with ASTM A36 specifications and is analyzed through simulation involving stress, strain, and safety factor to ensure its reliability. The research methodology includes literature review, 3D modeling of the machine frame, determination of the loading parameter of 12.737 N, material selection, and simulation processes involving fixed geometry setup, meshing, and result evaluation. The simulation results show a maximum stress of 3.294 MPa, a maximum displacement of 571.884 mm, and a minimum safety factor of 3.2. As a comparison, theoretical calculations were carried out to verify the simulation results, which showed consistency within acceptable error margins. The conclusion of this study indicates that the lapping machine frame design meets structural safety criteria and is suitable for industrial operation. FEM simulation proves to be effective in validating structural strength before the production stage, thereby saving development time and costs.
