Analisis Kinerja Turbin Savonius Dengan Variasi Sudu Untuk Menghasilkan Listrik Dari Wind Tunnel

Abstract

The extensive use of fossil fuels for electricity generation in Indonesia has intensified the urgency to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable renewable energy sources. One underutilized potential lies in the conversion of exhaust air from buildings into micro-scale electrical energy. Previous studies have shown that the number of blades on a Savonius turbine significantly affects energy conversion efficiency, particularly under low wind speed conditions. However, there remains a lack of comprehensive exploration into the performance impact of different blade configurations. This study aims to analyze the performance of Savonius turbines with varying blade numbers (three and four blades) in generating electricity within a wind tunnel, and to compare the efficiency between the two configurations. The research employed experimental testing and analytical calculations on Savonius turbines operated in a wind tunnel with an average wind speed of 7.908 m/s. The analysis of Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) yielded values of 0.122 for the three-blade turbine and 0.137 for the four-blade turbine. The calculated power efficiency was 1.37% for the three-blade turbine and 0.97% for the four-blade turbine. The electrical power output was measured at 3.6 watts for the three-blade configuration and 16.8 watts for the four-blade configuration. The low TSR values indicate suboptimal energy capture from wind flow. Therefore, the utilization of exhaust airflow for micro power generation requires further optimization to enhance overall performance and applicability
