Metal casting is one of the oldest manufacturing processes used to produce components with complex shapes. However, in educational settings, the lack of adequate metal casting laboratory facilities often becomes a challenge for practical learning, particularly in terms of capacity, safety, and energy efficiency. This study aims to validate a 3 kg capacity aluminum melting and casting furnace specifically designed to support laboratory practical activities. The validation process involved examining the conformity between the design and the fabricated product, testing the casting results, and evaluating the melting performance. A crucible-type furnace fueled by LPG gas with ceramic fiber insulation was used to retain heat and improve efficiency. The validation method included measuring the dimensions of the main components and comparing them with the design drawings, measuring the cast product volume against the design volume, and conducting performance tests covering melting time, temperature rise, and fuel consumption. The results showed that the furnace met the initial design specifications, produced cast products with volumes close to the design, and demonstrated adequate efficiency and performance. Therefore, this furnace is feasible for use as a learning medium for small-scale metal casting processes in a laboratory setting.
